Recently, I was approached by the executor of the estate of Susana Santos/Yakama Tygh Valley. Susana was a well known painter, sculptor, and writer, dedicated to interpreting the rich legacy of Native people. She was also a tireless advocate for the rights of indigenous children and tribal fishing. In Susana’s short life, she created a large body of work. Since she had passed over a decade ago, I was asked to create opportunities for new clientele.
I approached Pendleton Woolen Mills. They chose the painting by Susana, Rodeo Sisters, to create a blanket for their Legendary Series and a mug from the painting image.
Next I approached different museums about a show of Susana’s work. The Columbia Gorge Discovery Center created a show of Susana’s work, Woman of Vision which opened May 31st and will run until the end of December 2019.
Woman of Vision: Artwork by Apolonia Susana Santos (1954-2006) Exhibit Opening
Opening new doors for Susana’s work, my goal is to increase clientele for her work. I also added to my own website, Susana’s work https://bonniekahngallery.com/
